THE PRESERVATION PROCESS

We use freeze-dry technology to preserve your flowers. It is the same concept as freeze-dried coffee but is technologically advanced to the point where we can dry flowers. Before the freezing process we apply certain pre-treatments to rehydrate and fortify your flowers. Once your flowers are put into one of our commercial freeze-dryers they are frozen down to approximately -20 degrees Fahrenheit and subjected to a vacuum equaling approximately one tenth of our normal atmospheric pressure (at sea level). Because of the lack of air pressure (lack of air pressure=vacuum) molecules of H2O are released from the frozen mass long before the normal melting temperature of 32 degrees. Normally ice (H2O in the solid state) will turn to water (H2O in the liquid state) but once again because of the lack of pressure (i.e. vacuum) the H2O molecules jump off and bounce around in the form of vapor (H2O in the gas form). This process of skipping the "liquid form" is called sublimation. The importance to us is that water or liquid is what causes spoilage and deterioration. We continue to raise the temperature and evacuate the vapor as it forms until your flowers are brought to room temperature. This process alone takes approximately two weeks. Then your flowers are dry but without the deformation and color loss that you experience when air-drying flowers.

We then apply the most modern polymers to your flowers. This chemical process protects the flowers from the reabsorption of moisture, includes UV inhibitors, and fortifies the flowers.
